Kinsight celebrates community at the George
The George development in Port Moody is more than a new home for people served through Kinsight, it’s a welcoming community.
“I’ve been living in Port Moody for most of my life,” says Andrew, George resident. “I was excited and overwhelmed with joy when I heard the news that I was coming to live in a brand new apartment here,” he adds.
While the development is brand new, the street is well known to most of the Kinsight residents living there. The George was built, in part, on land formerly owned by Kinsight.
Kinsight partnered with Marcon Developments to create affordable, accessible and inclusive housing through the George. Six of the 179 condos are for people supported by Kinsight and each of our suites have been designed to accommodate flexible support needs, allowing residents to live as independently as possible. In addition to the innovative design, the development includes a variety of community spaces including a hobby shop, indoor and outdoor lounges, walking trails and more.
Kinsight residents received a warm welcome and tremendous support from our community, including IKEA Coquitlam, La-Z-Boy Coquitlam and the Port Moody Foundation. IKEA generously furnished all of Kinsight’s condos – carefully selecting beautiful items that reflected each residents’ style preference and needs. La-Z-Boy provided two specialized lift chairs, easing mobility to live life comfortably and the Port Moody Foundation funded a staff sleeping sofa.
Our gratitude to our community partners: Marcon, IKEA Coquitlam, La-Z-Boy Coquitlam and Port Moody Foundation, as well as George neighbours and our staff who helped make the new residents feel right at home.
My hope is that living at the George will provide great opportunity for social inclusion and a real sense of belonging, notes Christine Scott, Kinsight CEO. “That’s what people really strive for … to be included socially, to build relationships, and that’s what we want to see for everyone,” she adds.
