Now & Next, is an innovative program designed for parents of children who have a developmental delay or disability or are at risk of a developmental delay or disability. It was designed to help parents create a vision and plan for their child, their family and themselves.
The program was created by parents for parents, and is led by trained facilitators who will provide you with tools and techniques that you can use now and well into your family’s future.
As parents, you make the biggest difference in your child’s life. Through Now & Next, you will learn how to build on your child’s strengths and gain leadership skills to advocate for your child. You will also join a network of families in your community who share similar experiences as you and your family.
Now & Next is an award-winning program that has been offered around the world. It was co-created by Sylvana Mahmic, CEO of Plumtree Children’s Services in Australia, and Dr. Annick Janson, Clinical Psychologist and Positive Psychology Researcher from New Zealand. In Canada, it is offered through Kinsight.
In 2023, Kinsight collaborated with Now & Next’s creators to customize the initiative for youth. The next series of Now & Next Youth will be offered in summer. Details are:

Now and Next is for parents of children who have a developmental delay or disability or are at risk of a developmental delay or disability. As a parent, you will be supported with practical tools and techniques to set goals for your child and family, and to enhance your leadership skills to advocate for your child.
Hosted by Kinsight, Now and Next is led by trained parent facilitators. The fall 2023 series marks the 9th time Kinsight has offered the award-winning program. As a participant, you will join a network of families in your community who gained knowledge and skills through Now and Next and who share some of the same experiences as you.
The series is offered several times a year. Currently, the series is being offered as two full-day sessions (one week apart). Coffee and lunch are provided for the adults and free child minding is available.
Kinsight is covering the cost of the series, so we are able to offer it to families at no charge.
We appreciate that two full days is a big investment of time for many families, but parents have told us that it is time well spent. To support you, Kinsight offers a limited number of free child-minding spaces during the session. Additionally, we provide participants with coffee and lunch, at no charge.

Yes. One of the benefits of participating in Now and Next is that you will become part of a community of Now and Next “graduates” from the Lower Mainland and around the world. Australia, New Zealand and Finland are a few of the places Now and Next is running in addition to Canada. Families who have taken Now & Next through Kinsight have continued to connect with and support one another on their journeys.
