Kinsight’s New Westminster location receives a much needed makeover, thanks to IKEA Coquitlam

Kinsight staff, people served and their families have reason to celebrate! Three of the busiest spaces in Kinsight’s New Westminster location have been significantly refurbished and redesigned – thanks to IKEA Coquitlam’s generosity.

IKEA Coquitlam’s team of employees pooled their talents to transform several high traffic areas in Kinsight’s outdated New Westminster building, which provides services to children, youth, adults and their families. The team redesigned the centre’s reception and lounge area, a large dining and social space, and a room where supplies are stored.

In addition to providing considerable interior design expertise, IKEA Coquitlam donated furniture and décor as well as installation, painting and delivery services. The result has been remarkable.

“They put so much thought and care into how the space would be used,” explains Kyan Caldwell, Kinsight’s Community Inclusion Supervisor.

“The impact has been significant,” Kyan adds. “Being in the refreshed space just makes you feel good. It gives you energy.”

Ryan Lim, Communication Responsible at IKEA Coquitlam, agrees. “It’s been great experience for all of us,” he says. “Supporting our community is an important part of IKEA’s culture and values.”

More than 10 IKEA Coquitlam employees participated in the two day installation at the Kinsight facility, and even more worked on the design plans in the months leading up to the makeover.

“Everyone who was part of it felt really proud. I don’t think that feeling will ever get old because we know what an impact this makes on organizations – particularly non-profits,” Ryan notes.

The New Westminster space is not the first time IKEA Coquitlam has generously donated its time, expertise and products to Kinsight. They also helped design and furbish several of Kinsight’s homes at the George development in Port Moody, which opened in 2021.

Kinsight is grateful for IKEA Coquitlam’s continued support and generosity. Partners like IKEA Coquitlam make a huge difference in our effort to create welcoming, accessible and inclusive spaces for everyone in our community.
